In 1975, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UFPE created its Academic Masters. After years of consolidation, in 2005 the Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering was created, both lato sensu, then called Postgraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering (PPGEM). In 2019, the Post-Graduate Program in Space Engineering (PPGEA) was created, a lato sensu post-graduation in network, where DEMEC professors work on its permanent faculty.

Since the 1970s, the Mechanical Engineering Department has been specializing professionals with higher education, from the Metropolitan Region of Recife, in Postgraduate courses in Latu-Senso. Three courses are regularly offered, namely:
- Quality Engineering Course;
- Work Safety Engineering Course.
- Fire Engineering Course -
Objectives
- Train specialists to work in the industrial and service sectors of our state;
- To train professionals to work in teaching, as specialization is the minimum qualification required for those who teach in higher education;
- Contribute to the dissemination of modern knowledge in state companies, as the professors of specialization courses work with the state of the art in the areas they teach;
- Develop a culture, together with professionals from companies in the state, of the importance of continuing education.
Clients
- For the Quality Engineering Course, Graduates in: Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics and Related Areas;
- For the Security Engineering Course, Graduates in Engineering and Architecture;
- For the Fire Engineering Course, Engineering graduates and professionals holding a university degree who work in the related areas of fire safety and work safety.
Fire Engineering Specialization Course
Specialization in Fire Engineering will start in online and remote mode. With the end of the pandemic, classes will return to the classroom mode.
In the face-to-face mode, classes will be taught in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering at UFPE.
Classes will be held fortnightly, being held during the weekend: Friday (7pm-22pm), Saturday (8am-5pm) and Sunday (8am-12pm). The course lasts 18 months and classes are scheduled to start in August this year.
The target audience is engineers and professionals with a university degree who work in the related areas of fire safety and work safety.
Applications are received by e-mail at cursoincendio@ufpe.br . The registration fee costs R$ 50.00. The course requires an investment of R$ 150.00 for the registration fee, in addition to 18 installments of R$ 450.00 for monthly fees.
